Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County and Henderson Behavioral Health Win Community Catalyst Award
Award was presented at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Healthcare Awards ceremony
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County and Henderson Behavioral Health received the Community Catalyst Award at the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce’s Excellence in Healthcare Awards, recognizing their partnership to expand access to mental health and wellness support.
Launched in March 2026, the collaboration builds on BBBS Broward’s Little Steps, Big Strides initiative, providing professional counseling and wellness services to youth, families, mentors and staff at no cost to participants. Services include individual and group sessions, family support and training to help caring adults recognize and respond to signs of distress.
Counseling is available at Beth’s Zen Den, a dedicated wellness room at BBBS Broward’s Fort Lauderdale office, as well as virtually or through home visits when appropriate. Supported by founding supporter the Farris Foundation, the initiative has already served 10 families, with initial funding allowing it to support at least 240 youth annually.
By combining mentoring with professional mental health care, the partnership helps young people build resilience, navigate challenges and move toward brighter futures.
Henderson Behavioral Health CEO Dr. Steven Ronik also received the Lifetime Achievement Award during the ceremony.
