NAMES BOARD LEADERSHIP

 

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County recently named community leaders Rosalind “Roz” Perlmutter and Michael Velazquez, CPA, PFS, CFP, MSP to its board of directors.

Michael Velasquez launched his consulting firm Velazquez & Associates, PLCC last year after selling his interest in The Accountancy, LLC as part of a planned succession.  Velazquez previously owned and operated Velazquez & Associates for 29 years offering services ranging from tax work and financial planning to consulting and auditing work.  Velazquez earned a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from University of Miami, a Master’s in Psychology from University of Phoenix and completed post-graduate work in accounting and management at Inter-American University.  He is a Certified Public Accounted, a Personal Financial Specialist and a Certified Financial Planner.  He also is a committed community volunteer having been involved in the Community Foundation, Kiwanis Club and Junior Achievement, all in California.

Roz Perlmutter served as president of her family-owned business, Pearl Art and Craft and Pearl Paint, for 32 years.  The company, with 23 locations nationwide, was headquartered in Fort Lauderdale and a haven for aspiring artists until its closing in 2014.  Perlmutter, an award-winning artist, is an active community volunteer, having given her time and talent to the Weitzmann Institute of Science, Gilda’s Club, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Foundation, Boggy Creek Gang, Baudhuin School and Guardian Ad Litem.  She has received numerous awards including Broward County Mother of the Year, Broward County Woman of Valor, and the Simon Wiesenthal Center National Community Service Award.
