Inspire Within: Mentoring Youth in Transition

Nearly 200 young adults age out of the foster care system in Broward County every year and more than half of them have not graduated from high school. These young adults generally have no family support system, and moving into adulthood is especially challenging.

Inspire Within provides support for these young adults to prepare them for independent life. Teenagers and young adults ages 13-21 are paired with mentors in Broward County to help them cope with these life changes.

“Kinship care” is the fastest growing form of in-home living arrangements for children whose parents are unable to care for them. In Broward County, there are more than 2,000 minors living with adults who aren’t their parents or legal guardians.  Although these children are residing with relatives they still more commonly come across instability, lack of appropriate resources and can be less likely to graduate high school.
