Holiday Party in the Park
Sponsored by JM Family Enterprises, this party is held before children leave school for winter break and is held in conjunction with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward’s Share the Seasons campaign, in which toys, clothes, gifts and necessities are collected for our high-need families and given as holiday presents. The holiday party is an opportunity for all of our children and families to get together, celebrate and learn about the different cultures our diverse group represents. For more information on Holiday Party in the Park, contact (954) 584-9990.
This event, which usually takes place the first Saturday every June, has been around almost as long as the agency itself! Every summer, more than 100 children cast out their lures in hopes of reeling in something BIG. For the last 40 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County has been in partnership with John Weller, of Camper & Nicholsons International, for the agency’s annual fishing tournament.
We take advantage of the beautiful waters surrounding us and rain or shine! We gather captains from around South Florida volunteer their boats, equipment and time to take the participants aboard for a day on the water. Many of the children have never been fishing or on a boat, so the tournament is an opportunity for youth to have new and memorable experiences with their Big Brother or Big Sister. The young anglers vie for trophies for biggest fish, smallest fish and most fish caught, and the day is always a sold out success.
Perhaps the most avid supporter of the tournament is John Weller, who began the tournament 40 years ago. Weller, a five-time cancer survivor, also founded Freedom Waters, a non-profit organization that takes children with cancer out on boats.
Thank you our veteran captains who have been with us 10+ years:

Hot Summer School Cool Picnic
HSCS is our annual back-to-school party. All the children in our program are invited to bring their families and Bigs to the party to eat, play and interact with each other. Each child enrolled in Big Brothers Big Sisters is given an age-appropriate backpack filled with enough school supplies to last them through the year. Donors and community partners generously contribute backpacks, and we have a partnership with Publix Super Markets in which individuals throughout Broward County can purchase or donate school supplies for the children we serve.
We need more backpacks for children in our programs! Now more than ever, the children we serve need your help. If you would like to donate a new backpack, please contact Anne Gardiner. Your donation will provide a child with the essential supplies they need to succeed in school. To view photos from our last Hot Summer Cool School Picnic, click here.
