Big Brothers Big Sisters is about connection – the complete opposite of this intense period of social isolation and distancing – and helping families and their children grow and prosper. So now, more than ever, we stand with our community to help our families hold it together, while we’re apart.
An Update from our CEO
From: Ana M. Cedeno, President & CEO
Subject Line: Important Updates from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward
I hope this communication finds you well. It has been a long couple of months! We appreciate everyone's flexibility and commitment to keeping communication for their match going. We also appreciate your patience as we sorted out the decision to resume in-person activities. We wanted to make sure that COVID-19 numbers didn't spike with restrictions loosening up in the State. At this time, we feel that the numbers have stabilized enough for us to proceed with a soft "re-opening" of in-person activities.
Starting on May 30th, 2020, you may resume a modified version of in-person match activities with your Little. The modifications include gaining verbal permission from your Little's Parent/Guardian regarding the match activity planned as well as completion of the waivers seen below this communication. Both waivers must be returned before in-person contact can take place. Scanning/emailing the waiver back to your Match Support Specialist is permissible. Electronic signatures are also sufficient. Earlier today, a large envelope with both waivers was taped to the door of the office with an empty envelope for completed waivers. We can also mail the waivers out with a return envelope if you prefer. Please communicate with your Match Support Specialist your intentions.
Match parties should adhere to CDC guidelines when meeting. These guidelines include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Maintaining a social distance from others (6 ft.) when possible
• Wearing a cloth face covering when in public and when social distancing is not possible
• Avoid gathering in groups and large crowds
• Wash your hands frequently with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds
• If soap and water are not readily available, use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol
• Routinely disinfect commonly touched surfaces including those in your vehicle.
• Avoiding contact with others if you or someone you have been in contact with is ill or has a confirmed case of COVID-19
If you are in need of hand sanitizer or face masks, please let us know. We have a small supply that we can offer at this time.
We continue to encourage virtual contact with your Little as well. If you do not feel comfortable meeting with your Little, do not feel pressured to do so. Some additional suggestions for modified meetings include having your Little's Parent/Guardian provide transportation to a trail or open space where you can remain at a social distance and avoid the close contact that is inevitable in a vehicle. You may also visit with your Little outside their home in the driveway, yard, or porch.
Thank you for all that you do. You all are AMAZING and we are so proud of the support you have continued to provide to your Little during this difficult time. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
