29TH ANNUAL FISHING TOURNAMENT TEACHES CHILDREN HOW TO FISH Date Submitted: May 22, 2008

Big Brothers Big Sisters Hosts 29th Annual Fishing Tournament
Children learn how to fish during oldest charity fishing tournament in Broward County

More than 150 children will cast out their fishing reels on Saturday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the 29th Annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Fishing Tournament at the Bahia Mar Marina, 801 Seabreeze Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale.

The children participating are of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program that mentors children ages 6 to 18.

Many of the children who participate in the tournament have never been fishing.  But accompanied by their Big Brother or Big Sister mentor as well as an experienced fishing captain, the children will learn how it's done.

“Through the dedication and support of multiple organizations and sponsors, this tournament has redefined the sport of fishing for our captains and reinvigorated everyone’s passion for mentoring,” said Ana Cedeno, chief executive officer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward County.

The event is the oldest charity fishing event in Broward County.

Prizes will be awarded to the children for largest and smallest catch as well as most fish caught and best fish face. Awards will be given out immediately following the tournament.

“We always say that it is difficult to tell who is more excited about the fishing - the captains or the kids," said Nancy Park, tournament organizer. "This tournament is the agency’s longest running and most anticipated event, and it keeps getting better every year."

Afternoon activities will include a dockside lunch and snacks.

For more information about this event or Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward, please call 954-584-9990 or log on at www.bbbsbroward.org.  This event is sponsored by DHL, Allied Richard Bertram Marine Group, Freedom Waters, Chaperone Yachts and Bahia Mar Marina.

The Artist

Annette Annette's new CD, Paradox Of Life, will be released this September through RED/Sony Distribution. The kick off for this solid inspirational album takes place in conjunction with Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Florida (BBBS) and Borders Books & Music Café. Annette has spearheaded this wonderful and first-ever event to benefit the local BBBS chapter. Annette will perform selections from Paradox Of Life at three of the Borders stores in and around Fort Lauderdale. The tour will proceed to Chicago in October, followed by Detroit and Boston.

This summer Annette penned the lyrics for a song inspired by a friend who is a lymphoma survivor. Annette performed the song - Getting Closer - at the annual Lymphomathon in Belleville, Michigan, which raised over $43,000. Her hope is to bring this song of hope and encouragement to others at Lymphomathons throughout the US.

"Listening to uplifting and positive messages helps us in the midst of all the negativity in our world...and I believe that surrounding ourselves with uplifting and spiritually enlightening music can promote positive energy and provide us with the strength that we need in our daily lives." ~ ANNETTE
