A report called Making a Difference: An Impact Study of Big Brothers/Big Sisters reveals the positive impact of mentoring in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.

The report details the mentoring strategies of Big Brothers Big Sisters and reveals that such programs that provide children with a positive role model can lead to favorable traits and development.

The Public/Private Venture of Philadelphia study reveals that Little Brothers and Little Sisters who met with their Bigs regularly for about a year were:

• 46% percent less likely than their peers to start using illegal drugs
• 27% less likely to start drinking
• 52% less likely than their peers to skip a day of school
• 37% less likely to skip a class
• More trusting of their parents or guardians and less likely to lie to them
• More likely to feel more supported and less criticized by their peers and friends
