Big
Brothers Big Sisters' mission is to help children reach their potential
through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with
measurable impact.
In Big Brothers Big Sisters
of Broward 's 35 years of existence, we have served more than 14,000
children and currently serve more than 1,400.
Our matches are carefully administered and supported by rigorous national
standards and trained personnel. Our agency professionals strive for
matches that are not only safe and well-suited to each child, but also harmonious and built to last.
Our Core Programs
Community-Based Mentoring: Our
traditional model of community-based mentoring allows Bigs and Littles
get together on their own to share fun activities that they both enjoy.
School-Based Mentoring: This model allows Bigs and Littles to meet one-to-one in the classroom,
school library, school computer room or another location. Bigs
and Littles typically read together, play sports of computer games or
talk about their lives.
Our Special Initiatives
We
recognize that children in some traditionally underserved communities
may benefit from focused encouragement to help them reach their full
potential. Therefore, we also have special programs developed to
target these groups through our community-based mentoring programming:
Inspire Within: Mentoring of children transitioning out of foster care
Mentoring Children of Promise: Mentoring of children whose parents are incarcerated
Special Friends for Special Needs Children: Mentoring of children with special needs
Little Buddies: Social interaction and recreational activities for ready-to-be-matched children
